Job Description

The CMDB (Configuration Management Database) Asset Manager is responsible for managing and maintaining the organization’s IT assets through a CMDB system. This role involves ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of IT assets and configuration items (CIs) across their lifecycle, from acquisition to retirement. The CMDB Asset Manager collaborates with various departments to track, analyze, and optimize the use of IT assets, enabling efficient service management, cost control, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

CMDB Administration:

• Manage the CMDB to ensure accuracy, integrity, and completeness of data.
• Maintain up-to-date information on Configuration Items (CIs) including hardware, software, systems, and network components.
• Ensure that the relationships between CIs are properly documented and updated.
• Develop and implement CMDB policies, procedures, and standards.

Asset Management:

• Maintain an inventory of all IT assets including hardware, software, and licenses.
• Oversee the lifecycle of IT assets from procurement, deployment, maintenance, and retirement.
• Monitor asset usage and ensure that assets are utilized efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with asset-related regulatory requirements, licensing agreements, and internal policies.

Data Integrity & Audits:

• Regularly audit the CMDB for accuracy and completeness.
• Ensure that asset records are regularly updated and validated.
• Conduct reconciliations between the CMDB and other asset management tools.
• Work with auditors and provide reports on asset compliance, usage, and allocation.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:

• Liaise with IT procurement, finance, operations, and service management teams to ensure accurate asset tracking and reporting.
• Collaborate with change management and incident management teams to update the CMDB with configuration changes.
• Train and support users in understanding CMDB and asset management practices.
• Work with vendors and third parties for software and hardware asset management.

Reporting & Analytics:

• Provide regular reports on asset management metrics such as inventory, utilization, compliance, and costs.
• Identify opportunities to optimize IT asset usage and reduce costs.
• Analyze CMDB data to inform IT service management processes, such as incident, problem, and change management.

Key Skills & Competencies:

– Technical Skills:

– Strong knowledge of CMDB management systems and asset management tool i.e. ServiceNow

– Proficiency in ITIL processes, particularly ITIL Configuration Management and Asset Management.

– Experience with IT infrastructure components (servers, networking, storage) and software licensing.

– Familiarity with database management and ITSM tools.

– Analytical & Problem-Solving:

– Excellent data analysis and reconciliation skills.

– Ability to identify discrepancies in asset data and address gaps.

– Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in managing asset information.

– Communication & Collaboration:

– Strong communication skills to work effectively across IT, finance, and operations departments.

– Ability to present complex data and insights to non-technical stakeholders.

– Proficiency in documentation, including the development of policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.

– 5+ years of experience in IT Asset Management, CMDB administration, or a similar role.

– ITIL Foundation certification or higher (preferred).

– Experience with ITSM/CMDB tools such as ServiceNow, BMC Remedy, or similar.
