Job Description :
Must have Skills:
- Proficient in managing, configuring, and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server and databases.
- Extensive experience with SQL Server versions, starting with 2012 until the most recent ones, including administration, management, migration, patching and upgrades.
- In-depth knowledge of SQL Server architecture, replication, and high availability solutions.
- Proven ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in SQL Server databases.
- Experience in query optimization, index tuning, and database design for optimal performance.
- Ability to work with backup team, to implement and manage robust backup and recovery strategies.
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server backup tools and point-in-time recovery.
- Strong understanding of database security principles and best practices.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards related to data management.
- Proficient in diagnosing and resolving database-related issues.
- Ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
Nice to have skills:
- Relevant certifications would be a plus.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure SQL Database or other cloud-based database services.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell) for automation of routine tasks.
- Experience with configuration management tools for database automation.
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts and experience in working with large datasets.
- SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Analysis Services (SSAS):
- Familiarity with SSRS for report generation and SSAS for multidimensional data analysis.
- Experience in designing and implementing disaster recovery plans for SQL Server databases.
- Ability to think proactively and contribute with innovative suggestions for enhancing efficiency and reliability.
- Ability to conduct effective capacity analysis and planning, ensuring optimal performance and scalability of the SQL infrastructure.
Key activities & role during transition:
- Get to know and evaluate the existing SQL Server environment, identify areas for improvement and optimization, review current documentation, and update it accordingly to new findings.
- Collaborate with the current team to ensure a smooth transition.
- Document existing database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting processes.
- Work closely with other IT teams to understand dependencies and integration points.
- Update and maintain comprehensive documentation for the SQL Server environment.
- Ensure that all environment, processes, and procedures are accurately documented.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure a smooth transition.
Key tasks and responsibilities for regular operations:
- Perform day-to-day management of the SQL environment, perform routine maintenance tasks, including backups, index maintenance, and statistics updates.
- Perform SQL Servers, deployment, database deployment and databases upgrades and migrations.
- Deploy new SQL Servers, being them standalone or featuring high availability or replication mechanisms.
- Implement monitoring solutions to proactively identify issues and bottlenecks.
- Respond to alerts promptly and take corrective actions.
- Enforce database security policies and access controls.
- Regularly audit database security and implement necessary adjustments.
- Continuously monitor and optimize database performance.
- Collaborate with application developers to improve query efficiency.
- Conduct regular backup tests to ensure data recoverability.
- Respond to and resolve database-related incidents in a timely manner.
- Document incident details and implement preventive measures.
- Monitor database growth trends and plan for capacity upgrades as needed.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams for resource allocation.
- Stay informed about SQL Server updates and security patches.
- Plan and execute patching activities in coordination with IT policies.
