Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Syslog-NG Engineer to lead our log management and analysis efforts. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, deploying, configuring, and maintaining a centralized logging solution based on Syslog-NG. This role will also involve working with various teams to ensure proper integration with other systems, optimizing log collection, ensuring security compliance, and developing monitoring strategies for effective system operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Syslog-NG Deployment: Design, configure, and implement Syslog-NG infrastructure for centralized log collection from various systems, network devices, and applications.
- Log Management: Ensure all critical infrastructure components generate appropriate logs and that logs are forwarded to the Syslog-NG platform.
- Log Parsing & Filtering: Develop filters, parsers, and templates to structure log data efficiently for storage and analysis.
- Monitoring & Maintenance: Monitor Syslog-NG servers to ensure continuous availability, high performance, and quick troubleshooting of issues.
- Integration: Collaborate with security, network, and application teams to integrate log sources into Syslog-NG, ensuring appropriate log levels and formats.
- Automation & Optimization: Automate routine tasks like log rotation, backup, and restoration. Continuously optimize performance by managing resources and fine-tuning configurations.
- Security & Compliance: Implement logging standards, security policies, and access controls for sensitive log data. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards (such as PCI-DSS, GDPR).
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate technical documentation of configurations, deployments, and procedures. Generate reports for security audits and performance reviews.
- Support & Troubleshooting: Provide day-to-day support and troubleshooting of logging systems and infrastructure issues. Respond to security incidents as needed by extracting and analyzing logs.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in log management, system administration, or network security, with a strong focus on Syslog-NG.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in Syslog-NG installation, configuration, and management.
- Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems.
- Familiarity with log aggregation and analysis tools such as Splunk.
- Proficiency in regex for log parsing and filtering.
- Experience with SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) integration.
- Scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and log manipulation.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills to work across technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to document and present technical information effectively.
- Experience with large-scale, distributed log systems.
